Mr. Jackson and Ms. Fawcett Gone for Good

Well what can I say as these icons passed from this life today, one by heart attack and the other by cancer. 50 and 62 years. Those are the facts of two very complex lives lived as well as they could. Both tortured by inner devils and problematic pasts and futures. The riddles are solved for them now, but what of us? We who are left behind to ponder these icons of music and fame. We struggle on, accompanied by their memories, songs, smiles and wonder of it all. Adios Michael, goodbye Farrah, all the best! Say Hi to St. Peter for me I doubt I'll be seeing Him. I have work to do after the silent reading of the passing of these, the house awaits my misdeeds and missteps. A shortened blog in their honor.

Mystery Product...A Three Month Wait +!!!

Nansulate is the name of the insulating nano technology paint product that we ordered from the Florida based company on March 22nd. Sent payment (credit card) which they soon negotiated (like cashing a check). Then heard nothing. Finally we got an email saying that they would get some of this amazing, near miraculous product...the clear coat for home application on/about 8 May. We waited somewhat impatiently. The 8th came and went and we heard nothing...they were supposed to email us with shipping details on this nearly 500 dollar order for 5 gallons of the stuff. The 11th came and went and I emailed them asking where the paint was. An answer came that it was due in soon and we would get a confirmation of the shipping when it shipped. Weeks went by, soon it was June and still nothing.
So does this product even EXIST? Why do they cash my check and send nothing? I'm getting suspicious by mid-June of a scam of some sort and we are quite involved now.
Another email fired off with a delayed response all too similar to the last exchange, we will notify you when it has been shipped. Yea gads, time for some consumer hotline I thinks. Maybe the Florida State Attorney General's office? Anyway we put our determined daughter Audrey to the task of calling them for an update and to see if real humans are actually answering the phones at Industrial Nanotech. She contacted them and the standard replay was repeated "we will be getting some soon and we will give you the shipping info via an email when it has/is being/will be shipped. So there is where we are at as of this date the 24th of June, 2009.
For all to read here's one of their replies:

Customer Letter

"My issue is an 80 year old house without insulated walls. I decided to use Nansulate® because it was a project I could easily handle one room at a time. After some measuring and calculations, I saw it was also very affordable.

I applied Nansulate® on the inside of my house, on all exterior walls and doors, I worked my way through the house one room at a time. I keep a careful spreadsheet of heating expenses and so far, even through this has been a long and cold winter, I have used about 20% less energy that last year. Take in to account that I decided to keep the house 2 degrees warmer during the day and 4 degrees wamer at night! So I am quite happy and had a much more comfortable winter.

Well there you have the saga of the long missing paint. Maybe we will never get it, who knows...anyway it's worth knowing that consumer issues like these happen everyday and anyone can be victimized by unscrupulous purveyors of mystery goods or even those that DO exist in the real world. Life is good here in France.

Trois Lune X 8

Our little unofficial dinner club met last night at the Maison Blanch du France (French White House), this time there were a total of 8 of us. I had baked two loaves of bread in a long oval loaf shape for Bruchetta...sliced and toasted thin (1 cm - 3/8") rubbed with a garlic clove. For the picnic the day before when we were brocanting (new word) we made a mild roasted red pepper pesto/sauce and a green one that used what must be France's very own hot (picante) pepper. It was long (15cm/6") and green and looked for all the world like the Fresno Chile that we get in California. I had roasted them and pureed them as-is (skins blackened and left on) along with garlic and olive oil, salt and pepper. It was delicious and spicy hot to the taste but not overly so (6/10). That was the First. Then came a green salad with nut oil and our own red vinegar from Liz's vinegar mother she gave us last year. Then came the entree, a braised pork roast with ultra-carmelized shallots, mushrooms and new potatoes I sauted in butter and olive oil. It was delicious and disppeared in short order as I really screwed up...I needed about 8 oz (250 grams) of pork roast for each person...8 X 250 = 2 kilos...before cooking, as a result I took no pork as the chef-in-shame for this rather stupid mistake. I got a small sliver and was impressed with it's tenderness and flavor but it was but a tiny amount. I stand embarrassed that I did not feed the group properly. Next time! We skipped the cheese course this time and went directly to the dessert course. Kelly had made two chocolate desserts, one a mix of Fromage Blanc and Dark Chocolate and the other a melding of Chocolate with Ricotta Cheese. Both were delicious, one somewhat sour and the other lightly sweet. Nice. Then I broke open the booze cabinet and brought out the wide variety of alcoholic desserts from our local folks. All wonderful in their own way it was a treat for all. Then they left amidst the kisses and hugs and handshakes. Kelly and I cleaned up, then quickly read our emails and then collapsed into a deep sleep.

Today I worked on the new leak in the salle du bain...shower room, it appeared a few days ago as a stain in the ceiling of the sitting room underneigth the shower room. Kelly investigated and found the dripper under the sink. I decided to try to do a quick fix - just heat the joint with the soldering torch and hope for the best. I used peices of sheet metal to protect the wall and went to it. I had fire, I had smoke fut apparently not enough heat on the leaky pipes to have the solder joint liquify again and make itself leak free again. So overnight I thought it through and decided to use compression joints instead. Of course the hardware store in Lignieres is closed for the vacation seasion already so I raced across the landscape to the BricoMarche in St. Amand to get the needed joints as I had none the right diameter. Back, I cut and assembled the repair sections andfought the damned pipes for nearly 4 hours before finally reaching the point of turning the water to the house back on. It was nearly leak free! After and hour or so I revisited the joints and checked them for the inevitable leaks I knew would happen after the pressure has risen in all the pipes. Sure enough and I applied a wrench to ewch joint and hope-upon-hope think that maybe there's a chance they are now leak free.
Maybe.

Writer's Block Personified

Can't write, can't think, can't put a sentence together. That's me up to just a few moments ago. How bloody boring. So much going on elsewhere on planet earth that I cannot utter a keystroke, ten days of bloody silence, ten whole days. Over now, all will be better. Sure.

The election crisis in Iran, a civil war brewing? Maybe, but probably not. Just my oppinion given the western news agencies typical angle of hoping for the immenent colapse of governments and general chaos ensuing so that they can have an audience for their Coca Cola ads. Far too simple isn't it? Follow the money...always, just follow the money. I was hoping for a peaceful, tranquil Middle East that could be enjoyed for itself, not it's politics, so much to see and experience. Oh well. Good luck to all involved and the media (so they can make their payroll).

Brocanting yesterday with The Browns, their daughter S and her boyfriend. Joked about going to 7, not a chance starting at 10:30. Had a wonderful picnit by a lake north of Chateaunuef Sur Cheralongside the Cher river. Beautiful and quiet. I did score some stuff I've been hunting for at the brocantes and cheap too! A heavy cleaver for breaking bones and parting chickens for stock etc. Anb all copper (not plated steel) confiture bowl about the right size and depth for the glass retort I'm using for the distillation process (works well by the way), a double burner hob with covers, used a little but in top shape and a well used single for the still (oops I said it!). 10 bucks (sorry Euros) for it all...not bad. We grew weary after number three and headed home after. Nice ride with Kelly at the helm as I was way to sleepy to drive any longer. The after lunch 2 o'clock kind of gotta-take-a-nap feeling that you HAVE to listen too. Home we both collapsed for 3 hrs and woke up just short of 8!

Watched a bit of the Guess-The-News in French then the Fete Du Summer 2009 on TF1 til midnight! Half a million people can't be wrong and it was a show! Chris Isaak, Seal, Beyonce in attendance and many others I knew little of but enjoyed emmensely.
